Employment Law question

The department I work in is being wound down and we have been on Redundancy notice since Oct 08. Recently a job in another department was offered to three colleagues (each had to interview) and the job was subsequently awarded to one of them. Throughout the process they were advised not to tell anyone else about the job being available however one of the guys is a good friend and kept me updated on what was going on. The role itself would be one for which I would be the most qualified however I was not asked to participate in the interview process.

My question is - should this job not have been advertised to the entire company (as well as externally). Do I have any recourse to complain here?

I would think it should have been advertised. However, even if you did apply they obviously want one of the three others for the job so I don't think you would get it.

You're in a bit of a posittion here...
Absolutely it should have been advertised so that all qualified people could apply.
However if you question this you may make yourself more likely for redundancy.
Having recently been involved in redundancies in a major company I can reassure you it isn't always done fairly..
I'd say keep you're head down and if you get selected for redundancy I'd start asking questions then..
