    Howdy Lads,

Just wondering if anyone's gotten the tourist visa recently.
There's a way of doing it online vs. a nice(short!) downloadable version
from the embassy website.I've already got my "invite" but was wondering has anyone been succesful with the embassy application version recently?

Is it still rathgar you go to btw?

    Thanks

I went the online route recently. Of course since you have the invitation already, you can save money by dealing with the embassy directly. Just a couple of pointers:

    * It will only work if you are an Irish citizen. Everyone else (including Brits) is told to get a visa from the embassy in their home country.

    * You will need proof of health insurance. If your insurance happens to not be recognized by the embassy here in Dublin, you will need to take out a travel policy that is acceptable to them. I had to do this even though my insurance would have more than covered me for the trip.

    * A curious one the online agency told me about: The photograph you give them for the visa should be different from the one already in your passport. I have no idea whether the embassy here in Dublin insist on that as well but better be safe than sorry :).

Otherwise, just drop by the Russian embassy and they should have you sorted within a couple of weeks.

It was Tatiana in Sky Tours Dublin who told me that the embassy had gotten that picky even about British passports... So I went with the online route and never checked it out myself. She could have been wrong. Or the embassy might make an exception for a mixed Irish-British couple. Maybe you should give them a ring before you give up on going through the embassy directly.

Popped out this morning. Has to be done online now alright. Re: British passport, a letter from her employers stating she's in work will cover it apparently, although he seemed to be deciding that as went along. Still, beats having to organise something via London!

In September I had a trip to Russia. I tried to get Russian visa myself but it was a real pain in the neck. A friend of mine gave me the contacts of the agency and I got my visa in 3 days. They did all the paper work themselves. I didn’t stay at the hotel, so I had to register my Russian visa with the local migration authority within 72 hours upon arrival. The agency helped me to register visa in Moscow. Tel. 046 95 404 85
