I stumbled across this forum seeking info on how to sell a shotgun and .22 I have. I note it says all items must be sold via a gun dealer . Is this a legal requirement ? If so how do I go about i t? Do I have to contact a dealer first ?
What else would be involved ? Many thanks for all help.

Well it would be extremely silly to just give someone your gun while you wait for the buyers license application to go through.

So a good way around this is a firearms dealer, he will give you a note saying that the gun is no longer in your possession and he will give the buyer a note with the details of the firearm so that he can make a license application

I'd say any registered firearms dealer would be used to this type of business but you'd have to ring a few to see what kind of charges they provide for this service.

I recently sold a shotgun via the private route you hold onto the gun until the buyers licence comes through ( as long as your own licences are still valid )
fill out thr relevent sections on the new forms for private sale take a deposit (at least half the value of the gun)
if your licences expire you can then take them to a gun dealer for storage

    TPAUL,

But what if you bought from n ireland, I bought one from liffort donegal, right enough it was a dealer, he give me a receipt, and when I got my ticket via PSNI, showed him, then I took the gun home myself, no dealer this end.
Do you think it's the same vis-versa
