Apparently Australia's loss to NZ yesterday puts them only a half a point ahead of Ireland in the world rankings. I know the rankings are very complicated and I don't fully understand the inner workings of them but does that mean that IF Ireland beat Australia in 2 weeks time then we could jump to 3rd in the rankings? Or is a half a point still too much to gain in just one match?

It would depend on all the other results of the AIs too. If we beat Aus but they beat everyone else they play it's unlikely we'd be ahead of them I reckon.

it depends on a number of this things if we beat them it would depend on how much we beat them by but because we have home advantage and because they ar eonly one spot ahead of us the points we would gain from the victory would be slim.. however if we do win all 3 then we should pass them out.

be nice to break the southern hemispheres triumvirate, hasn't happened in a while has it? Even if its a bit academic as there's no seeding to be done for world cups etc. The system they use looks very much like a modified Elo ranking used in chess and a bunch of other "one off" sports rankings.

I think we'd certainly overtake them if we beat SA.

Wow, we've come a long way since the dark days during/post RWC2007.

Then again, we were third for a time before that.

I think 3 wins is very attainable in the Autumn and this will do wonders for our ranking.

It all depends on the result they get at Twickenham.

If Australia beat England by 15 points or more then Ireland will be only able to overtake them if they win by 15 at Croker.

If they win by less than 15 points then we can only overtake them if we win by 15 points at Croke Park.

Any sort of loss at Twickenham and an Irish win would see Ireland overtake Australia.

They have Wales and Scotland to play as well, and we have SA! The rankings at the end of the whole series are the only ones that matter (insofar as they ever matter).
