Amazon and large items

I need to get a few things posted to Ireland from amazon.co.uk, and now that they've reintroduced sending large items and electronics can anyone tell me who do they use for deliveries of bigger stuff generally.

I've only ever bought books/small items that were delivered by anpost. It doesnt specify who handles the deliveries of heavier item to Ireland on site, so was wondering if anyone here got some heavy items sent to them from amazon recently.

Were talking about large heavy items, over 100kg, exercise bike, squat stands, lcd tv and some weights all lumped together in one delivery. Not necessarily all for me but just handiest to take advantage of getting them all send in one lot :)

What, nobody here ever bought anything from amazon that was too heavy to be delivered by Anpost.

Surely somebody here knows who handles their courier delivery in Ireland. Cant find the info anywhere else on the net.

Its kinda like this; if its interlink, UPS, DHL etc then great, but if its GLS then its a deal breaker. My delivery will probably end up in some local drug dealers house cos it was left on the side of the road 100 yards from my house with a note telling me they couldn't quite locate where I lived.

Have you thought about contacting amazon with your question?

I would be very suprised if it was not GTS (unless you bought it as a special service) honestly.

Yes, obviously, but they are generally slow to respond to queries so I though I might get a faster answer here.

Yeah thinking that, some patchy info on the net seems to suggest its GLS here for big deliveries. The use various couriers in the UK. Wish all these companies would get rid of GLS in Ireland, they are a nightmare and thats not just from personal experience.
Dabs and Komplett operate much more efficently since they ditched GLS for deliveries.

I don't think they send TV to Ireland OP :(

I had a good amazon experience today. My mum bought a small oven from them 5 months ago, it broke last week, she parceled it up and sent it back Friday and today was refunded the full amount for it including return delivery which cost €45.
I know it's just what you are legally entitled to but it all went so smoothly and was handled so quickly that I was very impressed. I'd feel confindent buying large electronics from them again.

You can also ring them by the way if you want a fast answer.

Thanks Chilly, delighted to hear that. I bought a top of the range DVDplayer from them all the way back in 2001 (back when they were shipping electronics originally) and it crapped out after 3 months and they did the same, full refund plus payed for postage as well. Pretty good service.

Yeah you're right about the tv also, they're not currently delivering.

Also got a response from amazon re delivery of large items and they cant say who will handle the delivery as it is chosen based on where you reside after you place an order. It will be either DHL, UPS, Interlink or GLS.

Out of interest, do you know who delivered your mums oven when ye first got it? :)

Whats this about them not shipping TVs :( I was thinking about getting an 19" Samsung. Was just wondering if anyone ordered a TV online and if its safe enough. Are the TVs sturdy enough to handle a few knocks, as if seen it myself in work that frieght gets a few knocks. Also, is there an option to pay a little more and choose your courier. Really dont want GLS getting there hands on my TV.

With amazon, even tho they have changed their policy on not shipping electronics to ireland, there are still some items that they wont ship.

I'm sure you'll be alright with a 19" samsung but generally to know for sure you'll need to add it to basket and go through the first few steps of the checkout process. You'll be told soon enough if they will send it or not. You can exit the checkout process as soon as you find out, you wont need to purchase anything.

As for getting tv's online, i've ordered a few, for myself and family members etc. Mostly komplett and they arrive via DHL and were fine, well boxed and delivered to the door on a trolley. Most were big tv's as-well, one 42", one 36" and a 32" so I think you'll have no problem.

Agree with you on GLS tho, previous bad experiences mean I wouldnt have em deliver a bag of coal to my door.

Yeah but you cant throw a bigger tv around as easy, although it could swing the other way saying bigger, more awkward to carry so more likely to be dropped/ slip. I think ill email amazon and ask for a specific courier. If they say yes think ill buy it as it seems to be best price around . Whats there returns policy like just incase?

EDIT: Just went through the buying process and they wont ship a 19" TV although the FAQs say items over 30kg or TVs 26" and over. :( Think another email is in order

yeah, you have a point, never had an issue tho in having pc monitors shipped. Hope it works out.

Their returns policy is top notch, if theres and issue, email them with the issue, they will then give you the return address. Bring the item to the post office, pay for return postage, get a postage receipt, send receipt(scan will do) and they will refund you item price and return postage fees.

An Post delivered it and they delivered a printer sent by amazon in the past too.The over would've weighed around 7kg when packed so wasn't extremely heavy.
Good luck with your purchases! :)

Slunk: if you have any luck with the TV come back and let us know! ;)

No luck, they dont send tv equipment. I just seen the 26" bit but they were only using that as an example of a heavy item :( Ill have to look elsewhere :( If ye know anywhere selling a cheap 19" samsung let us know :p

Try Atom.ie - they have a Samsung 19" for €243 - that's €12 cheaper than Elara and shipping is cheaper too.
