Interested to hear what type and brand of lube do you use for your chain?

Finish Line - Cross Country/ Wet lube ... black with green lid! Find it great stuff especially for these wet winter months ahead of us.

White Lightning Epic Ride - Wet Lube for winter / rain (the blue stuff), dry lube for summer (the white stuff).

Halfords have it also, under the Muc Off brand. Same deal, the blue one for winter, the white one for summer.

Now walk in to the shop and tell them you want Epic ride wet lube and try not to giggle.

Now based on the above would it be safe to say that a tube of KY Jelly from the late night pahrmacy or Tesco might be a good alternative on the off chance Halfords were either out of stock or closed....

WD40 mostly was on finish line dry (red) and wet (green) if raining, but ride much less in rain now.

finish line cross country (its whats lying in the shed) park tool chain cleaner with muc off degreaser try to clean the bikes chains every couple of weeks (depends on mileage), tend to spray block and chain with wd40 or 3in1 oil to stop rust after cleaning.

It seems to be traditional on these threads to point out that you shouldn't use WD40 as a lubricant.

3-in-1 is ok, but washes out very quickly.

I use the purplish-coloured White Lightning (can't remember the proper name). I spray a bit of Teflon oil to dispel water after washing the chain, then I wipe that off and then I put a drop of the WL on each roller.

I use the finish line wet stuff in the winter. Great lube, but picks up dirt very quickly and requires a clean very often. I just use a standard light spray lube in the summer.

    I get mine here :

Their degreaser is excellent as well, and is not acidic or foul smelling, also dilutes for bike washing. Better than FS-1 IMO.

Is this the one you refer to?

Nope, thats already diluted, for £2.50 more you can get the degreaser, which is the concentrate and can be diluted 1:10 to make the bike wash if you want.

I use it for degreasing ( FS-1 at the mo 'cos I'm out of it ! ), and I use this for bike washing, as good as the best and the cheapest by miles. €7 in Woodies, will last ya over a year.

What about chain washers? Any recommendations?

I've been told to stay away from 3-in-1 and WD40, former too thick, latter too thin?

I use the Finish Line ceramic wax lube it's excellent and is dry. The reason for this is I have the bike in the house and Mrs Signal_rabbit doesn't like grease over everything. Handy for on the rollers just in case there was any 'oil fling'. I recently did a 5hr charity cycle in torrential rain and it stayed on throughout, after that i vowed never to change lube. 10/10 in my book.

It would probably work fine. I have the Park one myself and it does work substantially better than a cheaper one I had before though.
