Visible data fields on Garmin?

Anyone know how to customize the visible data screens on a Garmin (I presume it is something similar for the 305/405) 310xt?

For the "run" screen, I have an option of seeing 1-4 data fields, but these are pre-set (time, lap pace, distance, laps).

I really want to get the HR data visible, but can't seem to find a way to customize the view (can't see anything in the manual to cover this...).

    Any thoughts?

    cheers,

    Possible similar on yours
    On 405 it's
Menu - settings - data fields - training fields (select number you want) - watch displays fields - highlight one to be changed - Touch bezel i.e press select - choose from list of options ...
    Job's oxo..

Check out page 28 of the manual here:
    http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/Forerunner310XT_OwnersManual.pdf

Basically you pull up the menu and select Settings -> Run Settings -> Data Fields. There are 4 possible screens, one of which is always enabled. You can enable/disable the other screens. For each screen, you can custimize the number of fields on display (1-4) and the data to be shown in each field. You can display both the heart rate value and the heart rate zones, assuming you've configured the zones. The zone values is e.g. 2.1 to indicate the lower end of zone 2, 2.9 to indicate the upper end of zone 2 etc.

During the workout, pressing the up/down arrows changes the screen being displayed.

Havne't had an opportunity to say this in a while but........

Seriously, you obviously haven't. Read it, there are alot of nice features you'll never know of if you don't.

I've been staring at that page for some time, but it's the bit in bold I can't figure out. :(
I have the custom HR Zones set up, but I can only toggle between the 4 fields highlighted in the original post.

Pick one of the availabe screens (toggle it on/off if it's not the default screen), a box will appear allowing you select the number of fields you want displayed on the screen. After that you'll see a screen with the number of fields you chose above. One of the fields will have its title bar highlighted, you can move between the fields with the arrow keys. Highlight the field you want to modify and press enter, you'll then get a list of all available data fields, scroll up/down to get the one you want and press enter. When you're done configuring all the fields, press enter again.

    Excellent...worked perfectly!

I'm not sure the manual is particularly instructive on this issue, but many thanks for the steer...

    Seriously, I have.

I would contend that the manual is particularly non-instructive in this area.

They can be and I have. It's all in the manual and I believe the menu tips from above are the same on the 305
