They've just mentioned during the race commentary on BBC 5Live that Tom Wheatcroft passed away yesterday after a long illness.

The man who ressurected Donington Park from the ashes, brought motorcycle Grand Prix racing to the circuit and an F1 race that showed the ultimate genius of Ayrton Senna, not to mention putting together probably the best collection of F1 cars anywhere. Very, very sad news indeed. Even more so considering the state Simon Gillett and his shower of gob$hites have now left the circuit in, leaving it in a state where there might not even be racing there ever again now, at least not for the foreseeable future. :(

By all accounts, Tom Wheatcroft was a pure gentleman, a tough-but-fair businessman and a real character and a man who had a deep-seated passion for the sport. May he rest in peace.

    Rip Tom.

That car collection over there is just awesome.

And I have a winners trophy from 2004, before they wrecked it , happy days. :)
