MacBook won't turn on unless the charger is plugged in.

I was on my MacBook last night and was heading downstairs so i took out the charger. Then the laptop just shutdown, no warning, as if there was no battery at all in it. The battery was 100%.

So now it turns on with only the charger plugged in, and won't charge past 97%. The light on the charger is still green though. The MacBook is only 2 months old so this should not be happening.

I presume i'm still under warranty?

Will I have to bring it to a store (and if so, what store in Dublin) or is there a way of fixing it?

I've restarted it loads of times, taken out the battery and plugged out the charger in case it had to do with static electricity or something like that, but still no luck.

    Can somebody please help?

    Thanks.

Might be a failed battery. Try resetting the SMC:

But yeah, whatever is wrong you're covered.

I agree with Sad Professor. Used to work in a Mac repair place. MacBook batteries were always giving up.

Warranty for the win! Bring it to an authorised  repair place. They'll have to send the old battery away to get a new one though. I assume you won't mind that!!

Thanks lads. I reset the SMC but to no avail. Where would be the best repair store to go about this (Dublin)? I bought it on the website. Will i need to bring documents?

Can't help with the shops I'm afraid! I'm from the West!!

As for documents, you shouldn't need any. They can check the purchase date from the serial number via their Apple Repair Portal.

Just tell em the battery seems to have failed. Will only operate when plugged in.
