Try to find as good one as this, but with a less fancy number plate, say a 2000-2002 model. The VRT is only based on the first registration date, the mileage or condition do not matter at all, so it is up to you to use that (dis)advantage.
    Good Luck.

it's just a heads up, once you have your head around this issue which happened in a minority of cars from 320d's upto the 530'd to 05....problem was when a swirl flap snapped, it found its' way into the bowels of the engine and bang.

other wise a great car but you need to know the little issues out there....

Its not an older model E39 on a 2004 plate i'd be buying??

Check the VRT on a model which is a year older...
If it's much less, consider buying the car up North, and registering it in the new year.. VRT Price should fall dramatically as value depreciates.

Also, consider the fact that it is likely to have burned a fair bit of illegal, washed diesel up there..... Britain might be a much safer source - more choice too.

Buy local. When you add up the VRT and factor in the dodgy diesel.

    Buy a Cork reg...

Research has shown that e39 530ds are 10-15% more reliable when adorned with a KK reg

dont know what to take serious and whats having a laugh with the replies chaps... but on a serious note, if i wait till jan will the vrt on an 03 go down because it will be classed a year older?

Sorry positivenote, my reply wasn't very helpfull, I was just back from a wedding and was a bit 'tired and emotional'!

To be honest I am not sure about the vrt question, I would imagine that the fact that the car will be older should be reflected in the OMSP and therefore that will bring the VRT down, but I'm sure there are people here that will know

technially, yes, so you can argue this point with revenue in Jan to try and get a better OMSP .
