I have a question for all driving instructors

Is it better to work for Yourself or a Brand?

    What is your opinion!

This is kind of a hard one because how in these very quite times can any driving instructor pay a franchise fee, but at the same time how can anyone survive on their own?

I was talking to a tester yesterday and he told me people are not taking lessons anywhere in the country and the the fail rate has hit the roof.
He passed 5 people over the week.

I am happy working for myself, but am in the lucky position that I am not the main earner in our house. We would all be rather hungry if I was!

at any other time possibly they may have found other work but with no other jobs available and being self employed they cant get dole many will stay. Also i fear many are being fooled into parting with redundancy money on the promise of having work for franchises that doesnt materialise.

Roughly how many lessons a week are instructors doing? Im probably just averaging around 20 now (was 30 last year). Plus late cancellations have went through the roof which i suspect is down the not having money alot of the time.

I think the way it has always been is if you take on franchises and then give it up after paying for a year or two the franchiser would not care, because they will just get the next person who wants to try to make a living. I think it is the franchise which makes them vulnerable.

In the Naas area about 10 - 15 and from contacting driving instructors all over Ireland it seems the same.

I was considering getting into the driving instructor game. Would I be crazy to do it, at this time anyway?
