    This has probably been done to death. But what's the best/how effective are those USB broadband things for online poker? Say 6 tabling cash or something like that.

    I'm moving to a location in South Dublin city and will not have broadband.

    Basically you will want to go with Vodafone or O2 imo. This site will allow you to see what masts are close to you and what type of service they offer i.e. 3G or GSM. You want the 3G one. In south dublin this wont really matter as coverage will generally be excellent.

    What i would do if the mobile broadband was my only option is to go into both O2 and Vodafone and get both of them on a trial period to see which one is best. They should do this no problem and if they dont just complain.

    Didn't try mobile Vodafone or O2, but I can tell you that 3 in central Dun Laoghaire is rather dead than alive. When I tried here Meteor during their trial, it was grand but I'm not sure it's still the case now that they went commercial.

    I used to 6 table on stars and tilt with 3 mobile BB. Was never a problem either with speed or connectivity. That was in the city centre though.

    It's mobile midband. There is no such thing as mobile broadband.

    </pedant>

    I've been using both O2 and Three extensively. While O2 used to be superior, I've now made the switch to Three as I've found them to have better coverage and more consistent, higher speeds. In fact, I switched our whole company over to using Three.

    I'm using them with a Huawei E180 modem. In my opinion, it's worth getting a HSUPA modem due to the higher upload speed.

    You switched your whole company to 3?

    Only the mobile broadband yokes, everything else is safely with Vodafone...

    Quality posts there lads.

    OP just stay away from 3 Mobile midband anyway, its terrible, never get 3g reception continously, keeps switching from 3g to GPRS, or maybe from HSDPA to 3g, one or the other. Its great for 10 minutes then shockingly slow for 20.

    Just my 2c.

    Just saw your reply so I ran a speed test just now:

    If you have poor signal strength in your area, no matter how good the network is you will see horrible performance. In such cases, you should go with whatever network delivers the best signal, be it Vodafone, Meteor, O2 or 3.

    I travel quite a bit, and while O2 used to outperform 3 no questions asked, that has changed over the last few months. 3 must have done something to improve their network.

    I would like to add: mobile broadband should never, ever be considered as a substitute for proper fixed broadband.
