Target voltages for batteries

    Rather than go by charging time, I want to use a voltmeter to check when my batteries are fully charged. Does anyone know what the target voltages should be for an 8.4V (seven cell, 1250mAh), and a 7.2V (TM six cell, 500mAh)?

    If you want to be really specific about the charge then it depends on whether they are Ni-Mh or Ni-Cad.

    General guideline is that a fully charged cell should be about 1.5-1.6V - so your seven cell would be fully charged at roughly 9.8-10.5V and the six cell should have about 8.4-9V. Capacity is irrelevent if you're gauging charge state off voltage.

    Honestly though, best way to charge them is just a good old fashioned timed trickle charger. If it makes you feel better, you can discharge them first using an appropriate zener diode and a 9v bulb.
