What to wear to a graduation?

My graduation is in a few weeks and I was looking for an idea of what people normally wear. I'm a bloke so I was thinking of wearing a suit. Would this be the norm? Or would nice trousers and shirt be fine. Do people wear jeans?

Any thoughts or other ideas are appreciated.

No jeans. No expectation for a full suit either altho It is done a lot. You could wear smart slacks and a shirt and tie if you didnt have a suity suit

jeans are a major no no!!!! there's nothing worse with gowns! slacks and a shirt would be ok but remember it'll probably be cold so a suit is probably your best bet! At my grad in sept, all the guys wore suits and they all looked amazing!:D

Jeans are a definite no, no! For any graduation I've had most of the lads wore suits or a shirt and tie at the least.

Do you know what colours you'll be wearing? (if you don't check out here www.nui.ie/publications/docs/AcademicDressBooklet.pdf )

Personally I'd pick something that wouldn't clash horribly with the gown. You don't want all the photos of you wearing a pink tie and a red hood. ;)

Does it look weird at all for a girl to wear a trouser suit for graduation?

I don't think so no, I wore a trouser suit to one of mine. I think so long as you are comfortable with what you're wearing and look smart then it doesn't really matter.

Didn't even think of what colour the gown is. Thanks for that.
