Claiming holiday pay with intent to quit soon after.

    I'm in my final year of college and I've been working part time for the last 2 and a half years for the same employer. I've never claimed my holiday pay before, partly because I didn't know about it until recently. Anyway, the work load in college is quite a lot this year and I want to concentrate on my thesis, so I plan on quitting my job. Should I ask for my holiday pay before I quit or would this bad form?

    your entitled to it so it wouldnt be in bad form,if i was you i'd just claim it and hand in my notice and be on my merry way,

    But you can only claim for this year.
    If you are there two and half years then you'll lost what you should have got before this year

    To my knowledge there is no losing, instead the OP would have gotten a lump some at some stage surely?

    I think it varies according to your contract, where i work if you don't take your holidays before december 31st you loose the pay
    There shouldn't be a problem considering you've worked there, you're definatly entitled to it.
    You're probably only going to get 2 weeks if your part time, but still it's better than nothing :)

    For this year anyway, any holiday pay you have accrued and not taken will be paid to you as part of your final payslip.

    Also if you finish work now you may be entitled to a small tax refund at the end of the year as you will have unused weekly tax creditrs for November and December.

    We've the same use-it-or-lose-it policy, and I don't think it was even in our contract - it's just a policy they were able to bring in.
