    Hi There,

I'm currently seeking place in a Computer/Tech related company. I've been trawling the web and finding lots of companies around Ireland that i'd love to work in.

The only problem is they don't seem to be recruiting. Would it be advisable to send in a CV anyway just on the off chance that they may have a temp position for an intern?

At first I was thinking I would just e-mail my cv's to loads of companies but this obviously isn't such a bright idea.

I'm thinking now that I should contact each company by phone and ask to speak to somebody in HR. Then explain my situation and ask if they would like me to send them my CV?

Do you guys think this is a good approach? Have ye any other ideas?

    Thanks..

A phone call would be better, I think.
Don't waffle too much, but keep it simple. You just want to enquire if there are any openings for technical positions in the company; they don't need a big story.
The worst that can happen is that they say no.

And more importantly, if they say you can send them your CV, follow up and do that. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who have phoned me over the years looking for work and then they never bother to actually send me their CV...

Thanks for that i'm pretty sure a phonecall is the way to go alright. What do you think about companies that have a careers section on their site and say to e-mail your cv but they're not specifically advertising positions.

In that case I think I will e-mail the cv first with cover letter then follow up maybe 2-3 days later. What do you think?

I'd actually call them as well :) They probably have hundreds, if not thousands of CVs on file, so they're not stuck for potential candidates. At least you will get a contact name in there and suss out whether it is worth your while pursuing that company or not.
