**NO DISCUSSION OF THE TREATY ITSELF**
Just so it doesn't get locked.

Here we are 2 months after Lisbon, 2 months ago people had went Lisbon crazy and every person had their own malformed opinion or their own agenda, you wouldn't be able to go by a day without seeing the words "Lisbon Treaty" on the internet, on the streets and on your doorstep. The no side were warning of the imminent EU army and €1.87 minimum wage and the yes side were painting a picture of Lisbon as being the spark to reignite the economies growth. Nothing happened, maybe not yet but as of now nothing has changed. So what was all the fuss about?
Hillarious how one day everyone is so proactive in politics and the next they couldn't give a f*ck.

So whats everyone elses take on The Lisbon Treaty and the effect the referendum had on the people?
**NOT ON THE CONTENTS OR WHETHER YOU THINK THE YES OR NO SIDE SHOULD OF WON**

Well, it hasn't actually entered into force yet. And won't until signed by President Klaus in Czech Rep.

But the second referendum did get people more involved and did get them to find out more about the Treaty rather than relying purely on posters, which is always a good thing.

I just don't want Tony Blair to represent me in any way, shape or form - the man makes my skin crawl.

The President of the European Council doesn't/won't represent you. And it looking less and less likely that Blair will get the job anyway.

What do they do then? I assumed EU leaders represented EU citizens in world politics...

I don't get the point of this thread. Everyone should care about the treaty.

The position is probably best described as the Ceann Comhairle of the European Council. Chairs meetings etc but has very little, if any, input into the actual decisions. Whoever gets picked as President of the Council may travel around to other countries a bit more than anyone in the current system, but they will only be acting on the authority and decisions of the actual council.

The whole Blair thing was blown out of proportion, mostly by British and English Language media. Most of them couldn't even get the title of the position correct!

Cheers for that, I was never really clear on the whole president thing.

Fúck Lisbon and the cash cow it rode in on.

The Cash Cow ran out of town along time ago.

It was a stampede being led by Bertie and the rest of his stableboys.

It was always the case that if Lisbon passed we'd have one less thing to worry about and it seems like that is exactly what has happened.
