Today at work i am being asked to provide my passport so my employer can copy it to have on file in the event of a NERA inspection .i've looked at the Nera website and could find nothing that says he has to hold this information .Has anyone else been asked to do this ? I'm frankly not too happy about this . I'd be interested in anyone elses opinions in the matter

I think it best not to air too much of this here to be frank. There might be a reason, such as a non-national or residency or valid motive for a NERA audit or inspection. I am only assuming that from your user name. I say that it might be valid, as potentially you may be entitled to some relief you are not getting or perhaps have worked in a different unit of the organisation based abroad or are on an expat contract. Who knows!

Your employer has a duty of care in relation to your confidential data and also has a duty of care to comply with the laws and regulations of the land. An aspect of which is proper record keeping in certain circumstances etc.

If in doubt, commit such request to writing and seek professional legal advice from someone such as a qualified solicitor.

The motive here is more than likely bona fide and valid.

Legal advice per se is not available here so I am inclined to lock this thread, but in the instance some other poster has a useful and practical - non-legal contribution which may be of direct assistance to you, I shall leave it open.

    Tom
