Just wondering what the going rate is for
    painting a new house.

It's a 3000 sq foot dormer bungalow, just want a basic colour magnolia and white ceilings..

I have a mate that wants to do it but since he hasn't done a lot of painting i'm worried that if the first coat is crap, it'll take ages to fix it..
And it'll take him ages ....

I think it might be easier to get a painter in and get him to help the painter.
Anyway anyone got a similiar job quoted lately?

Someone told me they got their new house painted for 600 euro
    (labour only)

hi there..im a painter and unless your mates house was a tiny house no way would 600 cover it...unless it was some of our foreign friends..dont let your mate do it..ive seen lovely houses built with no expense spared and then theyve ruined it by painting it themselves cos they think its easy...it is...if you know what your doing...if its a new house get it done professionally the first time as there is a lot of prep work to do..the amount of filling to be done on a new house is unreal and thats even with a good plasterer...is there any woodwork to be done ?if so is it varnished or white ..with white there is a huge amount of work...good thing now is prices are very competitive...if you think youre getting a bargain..be careful..ive done loads of jobs fixing other "painters" work...good idea going for maggie and white..till you get a feel for the place and can decide on colours
ive just painted our new house 2600 sq ft..myself and my bro who are both pro painters took about 7 days flat out and late evenings so your mate would take ages to do it right

    Hi,
I also have a 3000 sq ft house, just got it painted all white - 3 coats on ceiling and 2 on walls, he used spray in some areas and roller in others. Price was €1400 including paint and all preparation work. This was done before any 2nd fixing, would have been more expensive after 2nd fix as a lot of sockets, etc to cover. Very happy with result and he came recommended.
I had 2 other prices €850 including paint - 2 coats ceiling, 1 coat walls, paint included. Didn't know him and local paint seller told me too cheap, stay away.
And the other price was €1400 labour only.
This is in Meath area - hope this helps, don't know how prices vary around the country!
