I'm not sure if any of you would be interested in this... I posted it in the games editing part of boards but might as well throw it out there for people that don't know in BA :P . The Unity game engine is now free to download (indie version) It's the new 2.6 one too which is pretty good for people like me :P

    There site is here http://unity3d.com/

If you are looking to start making games, it's pretty easy to pick up with the tutorials on the site. You can even play there games in a web browser, here's some games made with unity: http://blurst.com/

I got it yesterday but had to try for a while. Give it a few days and I'd say it'll be ok then.

Got it sorted, thanks very much, I'll never be able to make an actual game with it but great to get some casual experience of software like this.

Ah it is easy enough. There are some tutorials here for Unity if you need them http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_videonav.php?fid=1ec1a7be9c0d4cf9e7a31525250a30ff and lots of other tutorials for all around the net.

I'd be hoping to mess around with some iOS and Android stuff rather than desktop or web but thanks :)

    Thanks for posting about this!

I used Unity last year for one semester and liked it. Might try and make a game for android! :)

For any other idiots like me, note that the first post in this thread is old - current version is 3.5. That confused me for a while.

worked fine for me, license key came through straight away.

Just noticed when I finally finished a tutorial and got as far as generating a build, that the Android and iOS options weren't available.

I had used the 'Internet activation' option for registering, where I didn't notice anywhere to input my license key, so it just registered it for the default free license.

To get the Android/iOS build options, I had to go through the manual registration process, which was a little messy:
    - choose manual registration
    - chose 'save license request' and save the file somewhere
    - go to store.unity.com/manual, enter the license key from the email you got when you 'bought' Unity, and for the 'License request file' choose the one you just saved
    - you're then prompted for a save location for the license file - save it anywhere
    - back in Unity, click 'Read license' and give it the location of the license file you just downloaded.

At that point it crashed and I lost about half an hour's work, but on the bright side the mobile build options were available when I restarted.
