The Panel has been long dead tomred!

Does anyone remember when Phil Jupitus hosted in a one off special? You could see in his face that he was thinking "What the fook am I doing here?"

IMO - not the right guy.
You need to have a natural wit to chair something like this.
    It cannot be scripted.

He was probably thinking "Next to these morons even I look funny!"

I didn't think people still watched the Panel.

According to Andrew Maxwell, the Panel is no more after this series.

At least one series too late by the looks of things.

A very strange choice indeed. Not funny at all, though I do enjoy his political/economic stuff. Just shows the lack of natural comic talent in this country.

All of the offerings this year have been very poor, the only one with potential is The Republic Of Telly, but it needs a serious kick up the ass to make it professional.

I really don't understand why they picked him, he's not funny.
I googled him because I didn't recognise the name & I assumed there was a comedian by that name too..oh well.

Jesus christ.. I'd say they were scraping the bottom of the barrel with chosing him but that's not true

There's plenty of decent comedians that could have hosted the panel, even Andrew Maxwell would have been a better choice than McWilliams, I mean wtf RTE..?

This is retarded even for them, the Panel hasn't been great for ages anyway but if this is the final series why not go out on a high note

A fcuking economist hosting a light entertainment show, and during a fcuking recession too.. well at least that's comedic

Odd choice by RTE. But equally odd choice for McWilliams. In media terms his star has been rising since many of his economic predictions came to pass. Odd then that he would choose to present a show that has been on life support since Dara O'Briain left.

It's an odd choice but maybe he might be better than we think

He can't be any worse than any of the goons they rolled out last series.

That would be an odd decision from RTÉ before the series have even aired (and the ratings are in...), every series of The Panel has been the last according to someone since 2005 at least...

However, I have a feeling that this time it will be it for sure, unless McWilliams really reinvigorates it. A number of shows RTÉ have piloted this year have seemed to be moving in on its territory. The question of what to do with Colin Murphy though would seem to arise, since he is easily the best panelist, but he expressed at one stage no desire to go back to the Blizzard of Odd (which the creation of the Republic of Telly would seem to rule out, anyway, since it is the same kind of territory.

strange strange choice, quite sad really seeing how the panel has gone downhill since Dara left, even more so when you see how "Nevermind the buzzcocks" have done with their guest hosts, Rhod Gilbert was oneof the best so far...

Maxwell said it twice this year at shows. He said last June that he wasnt sure if the show was being cancelled, that it may have one more season left in it. Then last week he said it's back for one more season. He seems to agree with the sentiments here, that it should be killed off.

Unfortunately I saw some of the show this week. What I saw before I switched over was not funny - just cringe-making, vulgar & downright nasty - I am so surprised at McWilliams getting involved in such rubbish - for me he has lost all credibility.

Just caught a 2 mins rant by Andrew Maxwell and to be honest I think I've just witnessed THEE most unfunny piece of comedy ever on Irish Tv (and I watch a lot of crap)
I think the bland WTF reaction from the other panelists said it all......
Thank God I found the remote

    Worst 2 mins ever....
    dunno if I'll ever recover
