Ipod Touch dropping wifi internet connection

I bought a new ipod touch last week. I'm not sure what generation it is. Anyway I paid about €3 to update the firmware to the latest one, as prompted by itunes when I hooked it up. Then I connected it to my wireless broadband (via a Belkin router via that is WEP encrypted). Everything went well and I can log onto the net every time. However I have noticed that I am losing the connection a lot. Sometimes it will re-connect itself. Other times I have to go back into settings and find the connection that way. A quick google shows that other owners have experienced the same..but nobody has come up with the answer. Is this something that I am just going to have to put up with? By the way I also have a laptop and have a steady connection from the same network.
    Thanks.
