Bass Volume Issue

I've recently noticed while playing above the 12th fret that the volume seems to be boosted and the once punchy tone turns into a boomy drone almost muffled and really sticks out in a mix... Sounds ****e...

Is this down to design, pickup heights, eq or something? Its getting really annoying...

I'm playing an Ibanez SR-700 with Bartolini MK-II pickups.

Sounds like a pickup issue, though I'd check the action on your guitar too. Try adjusting it and see if it makes any difference. What amp are you using? Try DIing it to see if it still has the same issue.

I'm playing through an Ashdown MAG 300-410 and a GK 400RB. I'll have to give it a blast with a DI to see if it makes a difference.

I got it setup not so long back, don't think the guy had a breeze what he was doing when he set the pups, it could be that... I dunno the first thing about that sort of stuff...

I think it's a pickup height issue also. You should measure and set this by fretting at the last fret on the neck. A good starting point is around 2mm from the top of the pickup to the string (while the string is fretted!). You can probably raise the treble side a bit more.

This is very simple and easy to fix yourself. Just requires some patience, a screwdriver and a good ruler. :)
