    Hi to all,
I'm a volunteer teacher in Thailand and I teach my students to sing Irish songs as a way of learning English.[and because I love Irish songs].

I plan to teach them a song from every County in Ireland. My mum was a proud Kerry woman.Which song for Kerry? Please tell me.

Below is our song for Derry, please take a look at it.Thai school children singing 'The Town I Loved So Well'.

    Whiskey in the Jar

    Dubliners version is:

As I was a goin' over the far famed Kerry mountains
I met with captain Farrell and his money he was counting
I first produced my pistol and I then produced my rapier
Saying "Stand and deliver" for he were a bold deceiver

    Chorus:
    Mush-a ring dum-a do dum-a da
Whack for my daddy-o. Whack for my daddy-o
    There's whiskey in the jar

I counted out his money and it made a pretty penny
I put it in me pocket and I took it home to Jenny
She sighed and she swore that she never would deceive me
But the devil take the women for they never can be easy

    (Chorus)

I went up to my chamber, all for to take a slumber
I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure 't was no wonder
But Jenny drew me charges and she filled them up with water
Then sent for captain Farrell to be ready for the slaughter

    (Chorus)

't was early in the morning, just before I rose to travel
Up comes a band of footmen and likewise captain Farrell
I first produced me pistol for she stole away me rapier
I couldn't shoot the water, so a prisoner I was taken

    (Chorus)

Now there's some take delight in the carriages a rolling
and others take delight in the hurling and the bowling
but I take delight in the juice of the barley
and courting pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early

    (Chorus)

If anyone can aid me 't is my brother in the army
If I can find his station in Cork or in Killarney
And if he'll go with me, we'll go rovin' through Killkenny
And I'm sure he'll treat me better than my own a-sporting Jenny

    (Chorus)

    Thin Lizzy version is;

As I was going' over the Cork and Kerry mountains
I saw Captain Farrell and his money he was counting
I first produced my pistol and I then produced my rapier
I said stand or deliver or the devil he may take ya

Musha ring dum a do dum a da.
    Wack for my daddy-o,
    Wack for my daddy-o
    There's whiskey in the jar-o

I took all of his money and it was a pretty penny.
I took all of his money and I brought it home to Molly
She swore that she loved me never would she leave me
But the devil take that woman for you know she tricked me easy

    chorus

Being drunk and weary I went to Molly’s chamber takin’ my Molly with me
And I never knew the danger for about six or maybe seven, in walked Captain Farrell.
I jumped up, fired off my pistols and I shot him with both barrels.

    Chorus

Now some men like the fishin’ and some men like the fowlin',
and some men like ta hear, the cannon ball a roarin'.
Me? I like sleepin' especially in my Molly's chamber.
But here I am in prison, here I am with ball and chain, yeah.

    Your Limerick song could be

    Limerick You’re a Lady
your Shannon waters tears of joy that flows
    the beauty that surrounds you
I think about you love where e’re I go
While waking in the arms of distant waters
a new day finds me far away from home
    and Limerick You’re a Lady
the one true love that I have ever known

The days when you and I spent endless days of fun
in winter snows and summer’s golden sun
we fished in silver streams, the fabric of my dreams
    was fashioned by your lovliness
so now I have to say....

    Limerick You’re a Lady
your Shannon waters tears of joy that flows
    the beauty that surrounds you
I think about you love where e’re I go
While waking in the arms of distant waters
a new day finds me far away from home
    and Limerick You’re a Lady
the one true love that I have ever known

A gift that time has made to travelers on their way
seeking out the beauty of our land
    a shrine where children play
the bells ring out to say
that’s God that we’re alive to see the freedom of each day...

    Limerick You’re a Lady
your Shannon waters tears of joy that flows
    the beauty that surrounds you
I think about you love where e’re I go
While waking in the arms of distant waters
a new day finds me far away from home
    and Limerick You’re a Lady
the one true love that I have ever known

    Thanks for the ideas.
Rose of Tralee, the Christy Moore version mentions Bangkok.
Whisky in the Jar is a great song, but I'm not allowed teach them songs about drinking alcohol.
Limerick will be next year, but I'll note it down.I have to find guitar chords for the songs. That's me playing the guitar on 'The Town I Loved So Well Video'.The lady playing the guitar next to me is my wife. She loved it in Kerry when we visited ten years ago.

Kids love "Seven Drunken Nights" by The Dubliners. It covers English and biology.
