Funding for studying abroad.

If there a special loan for studying abroad? Something like a career development loan? Is there a post-grad education loan that allows you to wait a certain period of time before beginning your payments?

I'm sure I'll be off to the UK somewhere this time next year and considering the odds are stacked against me winning a studentship, I'm interested in how difficult it can be to get a 8 or 9 thousand euro loan to study in the Uk for one year.

Has anyone done this? Any help much appreciated.

    Valmont.

You can borrow money to pay your fees (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/StudentFinance/index.htm) but living expense wise, Im pretty sure your on your own. Turn the the wonderful banks that are mum and dad?:D

At postgrad government funding or loans are virtually non-existent, and some of what is available is based on residency. I assume you've already been down the avenues of sponsorship etc. by research councils and the like.

    What field are you in?

Most graduate loans I can think of only have a short period you can defer payments for, but they do have special deals for graduates in certain areas :)

Psychology. I've applied for various studentships and some scholarships but I have to prepare myself for the likely event that I will not get any help. I would love if my parents were rich enough to sponsor me but they're not. I'm very worried at this stage that despite getting a 1.1 at undergraduate level, I may have to say farewell to further education solely for financial reasons!

Are you going for a Masters or PhD? If the former and you stayed in Ireland (32 counties) you'd be eligible to apply for the VEC/County Council grants and fees. Thought I'm assuming if you've decided you're going to England your mind is made up...

Please could someone clarify this for me
there's alot of confusing information out there on uk gov and different college websites.

i'm thinking of going the queens belfast in september to do either a masters or do a second undergraduate degree. is it true to say that, ignoring scolorships, i will have to pay my own fees and living expenses, and that the option of the uk government to pay them for me and me pay them back later, like undergraduates in the uk can do, isn't available to me.
