    Hi Guys,
Do you reckon a garage would swap my car for another with no cash involved
Its a 2l Chrysler PT cruiser
The insurance and road tax come to 1,200 a year and its heavy on petrol considering I don't do that much driving.
It was a kind of moment of madness purchase considering how little I drive and recent pay cuts!
I reckon if i got a 1L ish car tax and insurance would be about 500 a year and petrol down considerably
Now obviously they would swap if they are getting a good deal for themselves, but as its an unusual looking car with highish tax and insurance is it now unsellable in the current market.

Considering your own opinions above on your car, why would they?

Most dealers/garages won't touch your car I'm afraid, it would have to be a specialist or some sort of American car club. Why is the tax 1200 on a 2l? Or is it an '08 or later? The CO2 emissions must be out of this universe if so!

You have no hope, unless you take something of considerably less value. Either way, I dont think anyone would be interested.

A garage is unlikely to swap but there's plenty of private owners who will, swaps and part exchanges are gathering popularity with private owners who don't want to go through a garage. Put an add up on one of the car sites to test the market.

    Tax & Ins = 1200.

I'd say the novelty of the retro-look wore off some time ago.

Garages can sell low running cost 1.0 litre cars all day long, I cannot imagine them favouring swapping one of them for a niche car like the PT Cruiser with more than double the running costs.

I'd imagine like youself they would be married to it for life.

Garages will find it a lot easier to sell a car thats cheap to tax and run,ie low cc engines.
Its very hard to shift a 2lt car at the moment, and as yours is not the most popular of cars i doubt you will have any joy at the dealers.
As was suggested you may have more luck on a car site asking for a swop.

Just thinking to myself, I'd cry long and hard If I knew I had a PT Cruiser coming back to me.

You'd have to rear someone from birth for that car.

Yeah I'd say a PT Cruiser is about the only thing that would be less popular than Fine Fail or the Greens at the moment.

A garage might swap one of their cars that is hard to shift if someone came in with a more desirable car. Not the other way around I'm afraid - try selling your PT cruiser privately. Don't expect to get much back for it though :(

The interior plastics are a real throwback to yesteryear. The only person I know with one is funnily enough married to an American.

The rear on this one (in black) reminds me of a London Cab.

In a vibrant colour they look OK, might work as a PR vehicle instead of new MINI's or Beetles.

I'd imagine it would be very difficult to shift even privately

Imagine how the op feels right now! lol

If you were looking to swap something easy to shift for something that they cannot sell, well you might work out ok but in your situation, dont even bother because they will not be interested.

Thanks for all the replies guys, good and bad
All i'll say thats its a good strong American car with individual looks!
Its a 00d with nct till next august,
3500-4000 is the going price I think

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,395 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

They're not worth that much to be straight. it's worth less than the equivelant Focus/Mondeo etc, and even they're not making 3500.

  • Registered Users Posts: 173 ✭✭Don17

    Fair enough,
Well if someone were to make me an offer maybe I would consider it
i may just put it up for sale again

    thanks

Have you considered using it Commercially?
Like, its not the best looking car in the world, in fact, you could say it is more like one of the ugliest. However, it's a real head turner, not for the right reasons of course.
It may appeal to someone in the Limo Rental business, perhaps contact a local business and get their feedback.
Could keep it yourself and advertise it in the local Buy `n` Sell for rent?

If I was you, I wouldn't insult your own intelligence by bringing it to a garage, cause from a sales man, you will recieve an uncontrolable LOL.

Best of Luck shifting it anyway,

Only reason that I can think to buy a PT Cruiser would be if the price would be really cheap and it needs to be 2.0l petrol auto as well, without auto it is pointless.

Then you could buy it for 2-3 years and enjoy the difference/novelty/what ever that the PT cruiser brings.

Then after 2-3 years you could scrap the car or give it away for free:) and you would not loose too much money.

2 years NTC would be a big plus as well, so basically if PT Cruiser could be valued to around 1,500e, then it would have some kind of point. Buying a Pt cruiser for 3,500e is crazyness, because you will never find another idiot that would buy the car from you:)
