Sorry if this has been asked loads of times before but the search function doesn't recognise "vrt".

If a person has owned a car in the UK for 6 months or more while living there and then move back to Ireland bringing the car with them do they have to pay full VRT?
Obviously I'm saying 6 months because the car was bought in May and they don't want to get caught for VAT also.
Or does VRT have to be paid on any vehicle if you want to put Irish plates on it?

if the person lived abroad for 12 months , car comes in free of VRT.

if the person lived abroad for six months the revenue will look at the case and prob grant it free admission.

if the person living abroad was a student abroad, none of the above apply. they cannot bring a car back

    regards, rugbyman
