Pistol Modification

Was watching Assassins recently, and loved the look of the silenced Luger. I was just wondering how possible is it to modify a luge to take a silencer. Odds are I'd want the silencer permanent, which would probably present less difficulty than removable, but yeah...just wondering how possible it is, and how one would go bout doing it

PS: Didn't put it in troubleshooting as it isn't quite troubleshooting.

I know you can get drill bits that make a thread when you drill into a hole.
I don't know if you can easily get a drill bit (or other tool) that can make a thread on the outside of a cylinder (barrel). I'll ask my brother, as he's does that type of thing in his workshop when he's repairing engine blocks. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Have you looked for a threaded Luger barrel?

was it similar to this, can comment on the build quality of the gun as i have no previous experience, most of gun looks like abs or a form of plastic

If it dosent already have thread then you need spiclist tools to thread and drill the the barrel.[cant spell very well]

I was looking at a full metal WE one from RSOV. I was also hunting for a picture of the gun in Assassins but couldn't find one. Here's the one from RSOV:

Does anyone have an Airsoft Luger...if so, what are they like performance wise?

Was the gun in Assassins not a MKI Ruger? This:

I think Blay is right, at least historically speaking. The .22LR Ruger Mk. I or Mk. II were designed to be suppressed as an assassains weapon. I actually have serious doubts as to the viability of a RS Silenced Luger. In airsoft a NBB is better silenced BTW.

You can buy a cheap as ships Tap & Die set in the likes of Lidl for about 15 quid and that'll be perfect for threading the barrel and silencer to fit., :)

Masada: Lidl has em? I have been looking for a tap and die for a while - all for my little project gun :D

You could always use Epoxy Resin...

Epoxy has little or not structural strength in the circumstances, Unless you use fibre matting with it but even then its brittle. tapping them is the way to go if you plan on using it and risking it getting a beating.

Thermo: excellent. I was looking for such items.

Masada: Epoxy can be quite strong - depends on what type, etc. I used it (stuff I found in the shed, which was used for bonding parts on a motorcycle after it crashed) for making several plastic items which got severe beatings and it survived. Its good for sticking objects together, though Cyanoacrylite is another option. Perhaps in conjunction with threading its an idea worthy of consideration.

LDPE, Low Density Polyethylene, AKA clingfilm, can be used for many things. It becomes mallable at a low enough temp (180*C) and when 'cast' its a good material that has many uses. It can be used to make lab glass (its got good chemical resistance), PBX (as a polymeric binder), or plastic items of many descrriptions. Maybe itcan be used for making custom parts - the resultant plastic is well suited to machining. A PBX rod, containing 7% LDPE, 93% RDX, can be machined safely. This is a testament to the strength LDPE has. HDPE is used in pyrotechnics mortars, and is very tough, while not brittle (if it was brittle, like PVC, the mortar would shatter).

Maybe we can come up with less conventional producta by looking into plastics?

Epoxy is all good on parts that don't need to move around or flex. it'll crack if it flexes, as will "Cyanoacrylite" or super glue to the English speakers among us., if this is a gun thats going to be carried in a skirmish its inevitably going to get some knocks and the adhesives wont hold out over time. If its screwed on it'll be able to hold out much better., :)

Blay, thank you! That's exactly the gun. I misheard Ruger as Luger. Now to hunt for an airsoft version, to see if it exists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

It exists as far as I know, I think someone on boards has one.

I have a KJW MK1 I bought from Ehobby, it's nbb but it's still actually louder than a gbb, accuracy and range is great, probably the best pistol I have and it was only $30. According to Ehobby it's hot if used with anything other than 134A, which is what I run it on.(Rated 300fps on 134A by Ehobby).

Really simple to disassemble, just pop the lever on the back and the top comes off:). Really nice matt black ABS, but the inner barrel needs a good cleaning before use, the amount of dirt that came out of my one was unreal.:)
