While I patiently await my new build to arrive in bits, I was wondering about headsets that are used for online MP on Arma 2?

Which headsets are recommended? I've never used a headset online before so I would'nt know the first thing about them :)

Don't use a headset myself, I can't stand them, I use a desktop mic I got in Argos for €7.99 and the voice goes out thru speakers

sweet. So just a normal desktop mic will do the job.

I *hate* people who use speakers while on voice chat channels. you say something and you hear yourself a second later coming through the micrphone of someone in the group who's using speakers.

Use headphones. That way only what you say goes through your mic (whether it be a desk mic or attached to the headphones).

Just a pet peeve, but good advice for not p*ssing anyone off.

I hate headfones, they just really annoy me, I got 5.1 surround and prefer to use that for positional audio. Nobodies ever complained, do I care, not likely :D

So the built in mic that's in me webcam would work for online? There's no feedback with it on skype but maybe skype is ensuring that doesn't happen.

Yeh I just use a mic I found under my desk and I put one headphone on so I can still listen to the telly.

webcam mics can be a bit strange because sometimes they only activate when you're on video chat too. maybe not though, if you just voice chat on skype (not a video call) and it still works, then it should be fine.

2 standard apps for voicechat for gaming are Teamspeak and ventrillo, they have "self test" features where you can check your mic sensitivity, volume etc. so you can hear what you sound like to everyone else.

If you're unsure, just un-mute your mic output on your soundcard mixer and speak, it'll come back out through your speakers/headphones.

Mumble is the best voice app i have ever used. Free too

Mumble is miles ahead of Vent and Teamspeak, crystal clear, like a phone conversation
