looking to find out why we had such a big correction in the market today??

I know that ING was affecting bank shares through out europe, but everything got hit today?

I think this was the retrace that was predicted for some time. There is probably more to come too. Unless of course some encouraging data is released to counter. Possible U - shaped full recovery.

I think thats the wrong question.

A better question is how did the makets go up 50% in the last 6 months, the quickest incline in a lifetime, while the real world says we're only a fraction of the way through credit default, job losses, and commercial activity.

My bet is we haven't hit bottom yet and the retrace was due to a adrenalin shot, against the overwhelming force of the situation, which is dire.

Combination of financials, worse then expected figures coming out of the US and consumer sentiment.

    Another buying opportunity :D

with 3.5% available on retail deposits and deflation at 6%, why would you worry your head with all that?

VIX just had its biggest one day jump ever. Get out of stocks in the short term imo.

People buying S&P puts in earnest.

    Not good.

    Hi PD

Are you saying to get out of everything including shares that are being held as long term investments??

What is the exact meaning of vix

    Vix is a risk measure.

The US is out of recession. There is now a worry that interest rates may be raised and the huge amount of liquidity that has been released by rock bottom rates and which has been driving the market will seep away.
