Improper suggestion ?

My sister is currently looking for a job in the UK.
She was entitled to social welfare here in Ireland.
Anyway, she has suggested my wife "collects her social welfare with her swipe card" from the post office.

I or my wife has never done anything fraudulent and I am very suspicious of this.
Obviously this would be while my sister doesn't have a job in the UK and I am assuming she is getting nothing in the UK which would definitely be fraudulent.

I know nothing about social welfare.
Would my wife be liable for prosecution if she did this ?
    Any thoughts ?

thats fraud and highly illegal, steer well clear, if you are found out you could go to prison, check out the welfare website, its all there

Your wife is not entitled to collect payment for your sister. This would indeed be fraud and your wife may be opening herself to prosecution.

Thanks for your replies - I am livid.
I'm wondering why she can't just get it transferred to the UK.

Actually, your sister should be able to apply for benefits in the UK. However, they are lower than benefits here which is possibly why she chanced her arm.

I would have serious words with anyone who would have had my wife (husband in my case but still) implicate herself in these goings on.

I shall be meeting her tonight.
I guess it boils down to principles.
Some people have them and some don't.

It's easy to differentiate between them - those without principles never have happiness.

The Irish rate is EUR204 a week- the UK rate is £65 a week- obviously its far more lucrative to claim the Irish rate, than the UK rate.......

It is possible to transfer your Irish benefit to another EU country if you are seeking work in that country. It is limited to a certain period but it would be worth your sister investigating. Her suggestion that your wife collect her benefit could have landed you wife in jail.

If you're going to look for work in another european country, you can go to the welfare office and arrange for your €204 (sterling equiv) to be paid in the UK for 2 or 3 months. After that, you can apply for benefits in the UK.

    +1

No need to get your wife to collect her payments at all your sister can organise this and no one breaks any laws.
