    Hi,

I am using logic on the iMac and when I create music, it sounds nice through the monitors, when I bounce down to MP3 then play it back in the car... the volume is low and it sounds strained... any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

well for a start you're bouncing down to mp3!

also it depends what monitors you are using. low end monitors may be hyping the sound which doesnt translate to differant speakers and systems.

    I am using E-MU PM5's

I bounce to mp3 to upload to MySpace...

How would I record straight to CD for better quality?

well for a start you can bounce to wav (or aiff as is the case on mac) although theres very little that can make music sound good on myspace.

also the emu monitors are budget so dont expect pro results from them.

check what kind of level your master buss is hitting. if its not around -3 or above then you should boost your overall volume until its around -3db ((you can do this by moving all the faders up by the same amount or just by moving the master fader up, the first way is probably best though).

once its in that region (or if it was already) try adding some compression and/or limiting to your master bus, this will get you a bit closer to commercial levels, but without a proper mastering job the tracks won't really hit radio volume without smashing them to bits with a limiter.

For myspace pull a load of 200-500hz out of mix and slam it with a limiter.
It will then sound much louder. Especially on laptop speakers.
