Late Registration?

    Right, this is my situation:
I got my first choice for DCU, but when it came to the time that I had to register online, I found out that I could possibly have to pay a 12k fee because I wasn't born in the EU. So I had to get the citizenship stuff sorted out first, by the time that was done, it was after the 18th. But an ever worse problem was I didn't have the money to register. My parents had said they had been saving for me, but it turns out that was a load of crap. Anyway, I had tried to get a student loan and an overdraft but I can't because I'm not 18 yet. I'm pretty much at the end of the line; I haven't deferred yet, but I might be able to still register late. My grandparents' have offered to pay the registration fee for me, but the small "quarrel" between my mother and them might get in the way.

But anyway, my course is International Relations, so it's not a course with constant projects/experiments. If I do the late registration, will it be worth it? I know I can make up all the work I've missed. Someone also told me that some courses have an attendance requirement and if you don't meet it, you fail. If I registered late, would that apply to me? Because I don't want it to be a situation where I finally get registered and then I learn I've failed my course.

Hopefully someone here can give me some info because I REALLY don't want to be stuck at home for another year...

EDIT: And would it be too late to join up into different societies?

get in touch with the head of the course, he/she will know best about continuous assessment etc. I would expect lecturers would be understanding and ignore your non attendance up to now, as long as you let them know! Always take the time to explain to a lecturer why you missed something (for future reference).

You can join clubs and socs all year round.
