British Registered Car

Hi folks, hope someone can help me out with some definitive advice here.

My girlfriend is a student here in Trinity College. Her parents have a house in the UK and her car is registered and taxed there. She would like to bring her car over here to use it while in college but doesn't want to change the plates as they are custom plates her father bought for the car.

We COULD just bring it over and use it on the UK plates on the sly but unfortunately we need to get on street parking and Dublin Council seem to have a requirement that the car is insured at the address at which we live.

She has had the car for more than 6 months so VRT isn't an issue and she's happy to have an NCT here and pay Irish tax and insurance but the problem is the license plates...

Is there any way around this?

Any help would be much appreciated,

    Cheers,
    E
