    Hi all,

I'm thinking about starting a mobile coffee business. Part time to start with to see how it goes. I am just finding it hard to source out info. I would probably try and hire a trailer if i can find one at all.

What sort of permission would i need to sell coffee, tea and snacks. For events, i would need to go to event management i suppose but what about selling at luas stops. Who would i need to go to then:confused:

I guess i will be doing it at weekends at first so it would be more events i would be looking at right now. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I am really enthusiastic about giving this a good shot and making it a starting point to becoming my own boss. :)

Hi this will be a good start just to get information

    http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&q=mobile+coffee+franchises&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

You dont need to buy a franchise but you will get a lot of info by looking at these businesses. A lot of these mobile units are franchises.

It could be something you could create after a while as well to earn more income as your becomes more established.

I dont really know the legalities about where you can go, would like to know that myself.

If you want to go through with it you have to register with revenue as a sole trader. Then contact the local health authorities in relation to the EHO's .... the health inspectors ...to seek their advice on health and hygiene.

Some advice: its easy to buy...harder to sell.
Be carefull spending money...make sure you get everything second hand.
    Good luck.

An accountant that I use does accounts for various coffee shops. Although different outlets of course he may be able to give you an insight on certain costs.

As a coincidence he also owns -or directs- an event company. Located Blackrock.

PM if you want more details. . .

If you're just trying it out for weekends, I'd go to where the markets are, people will be bargain hunting for Christmas, and it's the weather to get a coffee when walking around ! The likes of the Fairyhouse market, and many farmers markets etc. I would also imagine taking a stand at these would be cheaper than trying to get one for LUAS stops etc.
Best of luck with it !

Thanks for all the replies. Yeah, i have to do a a lot of research before i part with any money. It's so hard to know what my first step would be. I guess if i am serious about it, i would need a trailer to start with. I was looking at these guys . The prices seem fair but i'll look around for second hand ones and second hand fittings. Then i guess i'll have to have the health and safety check done. Do my research and register with the revenue. I wonder how much it will affect my income if i am working. My main goal would be to quit eventually and take this on full time. I just have to be sure i know what i am doing before i jump into the deep end.

Anyone idea about what licenses i would need for this small venture. Is there a street traders license. I can't get much info at all. The county council are very slow at getting back to me. I know for markets, you just pay for the day but what about public places, would i be expected to pay a lot? I heard it's a lot different from county to county and fingal county council are less strict. What about industrial estates?

I was thinking about this but went with a fast food van instead as its more adaptable with much broader Market however I went through everything from scratch so if you want any advice please feel free to contact me, almost forgot, my friend runs a little coffee pushcart/mobile, if anyone else is interested I'm in the process of selling my van, reluctantly, due to illness - thebuttybox@gmail.com

One thing that always appears to do well is crepes, perhaps more skill involved but the demand appears high whenever you see a crepe van and the crepes are never what one would class as cheap.

Best of luck with the venture mate.
