    Seen a good few jobs in this sector. However depending on the job you will need psa licence and 10 year background check with garda vetting. I got office job in security company and had to go through 10 year background check and garda vetting and its only contract.

    Anyways always see security jobs on jobs and monster.ie and most other websites

    Thanks for that jd, yea the garda vetting is no prob i've been a good boy although I have been self employed for a good part of the last 10 years so not sure how that works. Was just wondering if I go through all that and get some sort of a job out of it. Have to start working on that cv.

    Thanks again D.

    As long as you've a clean criminal record you're grand for the licence.

    There's jobs around...but they're few and far between as with anything. If you know someone, you're laughing. Try get yourself into a handy regular spot. The good thing about security is that they'll always be needed, recession or not. The bad thing is that most places have their regular spots filled. But you can still find the odd place.

    This ISN'T meant as a racist comment but if you're Irish, it's a big advantage. A lot of employers prefer to work with their own for various reasons. Again that's not ME being racist...just what I've found. When I was doing it regularly (I only do the odd job these days), almost every boss wherever I went welcomed me with open arms saying "Ahhh, you're Irish!"

    It's a handy qualification to have though so definitely go for the licence.

    I worked security for about 8 years (4 years in college and 4 before). My biggest selling point was that I could only work weekend nights, and some sneaky security companies dont pay shift allowance (they pay a higher flat rate to circumvent it and are non-unionized) so they always struggle to fill weekend nights as a result, that worked in my favor when I needed a job.

    Nice 1 omahaid for me beggers can't be choosers. Mind you i've done a lot of weekend nights in a taxi so don't mind doing them if I have to.

    @Dairemac

    I would recommend www.educationchoice.ie for the Fetac Level 4 Guarding Skills Course. Its a 2 day course with over 11 modules, some rolepaly scenarios also.

    The chap's name is David and he has a lot of contacts with Security companies.

    Merrion Square is where he is based.

    Check him out.

    Best of luck
