Very cross at myself for not posting about this two days ago, Oct. 25th!

He was just great. I really miss his presence on the Tour. He really brightened things up when he played.

He was reigning US Open Champion when he died ten years ago (as most here will know).

    R.I.P Payne. Legend!!!!

My favourite US player. The guy had passion, class, grace, manners and was a pretty good player.

This is the type of man he was....... he was very patriotic and loved playing in the Ryder Cup. In 95 he played Monty and the crowd gave Monty dog's abuse. Even though Stewart wanted to win he made it his business to point out some of the main abusers. He was so annoyed that on the 18th with Monty needing a 20 foot par for a half, Payne conceded.

The man was a legend and is very much missed by those who he shone upon.

Sorry my mistake......my post was meant to say.......

"He was so annoyed that on the 18th with Monty needing a 20 foot par for a win, Payne conceded......yes conceded the match (ok so it wasn't need by the team but individual players still like to keep their stats good)."

Is it 10 years wow that is just hard believe seems like only few years ago where the time gone.

I know sometimes when people die they get praise maybe soemtimes little OTT but this man truly was a gent and a great player.

I remember watching him win the 1999 US Open willing him on all the way even my dad who only barely follow golf always liked him. I'll never forget that Putt on 72nd hole.

Its always the good guys it seems.

A player that people will never forget.

Ten years!? Geez, didn't realise he was that long.

My brother loved him growing up. In fact i remember him going through a spell of tucking his trousers into his socks and pretending he was Payne Stewart when we used to go play pitch and putt.

It was a sad day for golf when he went... but he'll always be remembered.

Wow, 10 years, that long ago?
I still remember discussing it in work

And the guy getting a lot of credit in the Ryder Cup, probably one of few on that team who came out credit from the American team celebrations
