We are thinking of going to Tenerife, at the end of November. myself my girlfriend my 1 year old daughter and my 16 year old sister and my 17 year old sister in law. The flights with ryanair are very reasonable and were looking to rent directly for 1 week. Just looking for some advice on a) where to look for an apartment, b)what part of tenerife to go (quietish place with nice beaches and good weather.) and also i dont really know what kind of weather to expect, will it actually be warm and sunny!

    Any advice would be appriciated.

weather should be nice and sunny yes, i was there at the end of november last year and it averaged 22 degrees during the day, really you cannot go wrong with anywhere on the southwest coast of tenerife

we stayed in playa de las americas, not exactly the quietest spot on the island. los cristianos down the road is quieter with a better beach so i would recommend that

los gigantes is amazing (think cliffs 3 or 4 times as tall as cliffs of moher), beach is black sand though http://www.losgigantes.com/

Yeah, I'm looking for advice about 'Winter Sun' spots too. It seems that in Europe at least, the Canaries is the safest bet.

Does anyone have advice about which island is best?

    for sun???

either south tenerife or south gran canaria for sun, fuerteventura is known as been very windy

have only been to tenerife (going to gran canaria and lanzarote next month) but tenerife is fantastic, tonnes of things to see and do http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attractions-g187479-Activities-Tenerife_Canary_Islands.html

The weather will be great in Tenerife this time of the year. I'm heading down next week.

Best to stay somewhere in the south of the Island but you should try and check out Santa Cruz (the capital) in the north of the Island for a day. It's only about an hour away by car.

Just back from Tenerife myself a week ago, and my uncle and his family are there this week. Tbh its the only place to go for sun in the winter, we had 2 overcast days but this week they were telling me its roasting 29 degrees.

Las americas is quiet enough this time of year but the best beach is in Los cristianos, the man made beach the rest are black and you will come home flithy from them.

I would recommend Costa Adeje in Tenerife, mixture of all inclusives and self catering accomodations, beautiful beach, restaurants & bars.

Does anyone know if Tenerife Airport strict on the amount of hand luggage?

^^ If you are referring to travelling with Ryanair ... then yes. I was in Tenerife a few weeks ago and they are very strict with hand luggage.

I'd also second Costa Adeje, it's gorgeous! It's not your typical Tenerife either - it's very quiet and beautiful there. The beach is fab too!

I always stay at Paloma Beach. www.palomabeach.com.

I go to a private apartment owned by tom ainsworth. Do a google on both names and have a look.

I've booked a trip to Tenerife in January and am also looking for recommendations on where to stay!
Going with my boyfriend and we definitely want to be somewhere quiet, away from 'the strip' (if there is one!)
Costa Adeje seems to suit what we're looking for from what people have said?

Anyone have any particular recommendations for a hotel/apartment? So hard to tell from online descriptions what a place is really like!

Also, any other parts of Tenerife besides Costa Adeje that people would recommend? I've heard Playa San Juan being mentioned elsewhere...

Any advice greatly recommended as places are booking up (sorry for hijacking thread by the way). I'm being cautious cos 2 weeks is a long time to be stuck somewhere that isn't nice!!

    Hey
TBH not a major Tenerife fan- I much prefer the other canary islands- i found it to be the dearest by far (its still good value in comparison to home though) I think this is because it attracts more sterling travellers so they take advantage of people not knowing the euro.

Anyway back on topic- I stayed here last October bank holiday ('08) and loved the accommodation (we did the cheap Ryanair flight thing and it worked really well)- its outside Las Americas and Los Cristianos (walking distance) but i def recommend going to Costa Adeje for dinners/evenings. My review for Granada Park is here if you are interested :)

    Hope this helps

why spend 2 weeks in one place?? tenerife is a small enough island, you could spend a few days in the south and a few days in the north, you could get the ferry over to la gomera (ferry takes about 45 mins from los cristianos) and spend a day or two there

Yes the plan is definitely to go over to La gomera for a day or two, but we would still keep our accommodation on Tenerife for the two weeks. We will pop around the island by car, but only stay in one place.

Thanks for that! Looks like you got a good deal though cos it's not too cheap for the weeks we are going...

    Any other recommendations?

Can I suggest El Medano ? It's a smaller, quieter resort just 3 miles from the airport. We were there three weeks ago and loved it. We had a car and visited the Las Vistas beach in Los Christianos and Los Gigantos as well.

    We stayed here, www.villalasdunastenerife.com/ The review dated 19th October on the Tripadvisor reviews linked to their website is mine. There are three beaches in El Medano and the best is this one;
    http://www.webtenerifeuk.co.uk/PortalTenerife/Home/Disfruta+del+bienestar/Playas/Playas/LA+TEJITA.htm?Lang=en

Make sure to go to the volcano, it costs 25 Euro each to go on the cable car but is well worth it.

Best value car hire is here; http://www.top-car-hire.com/car_hire_canary_islands/index.php

If you prefer self catering accomadation, try here; http://www.holidayhomesdirect.ie/

And YES, they are extremely strict at the gate with hand luggage. Most people were asked to put their bag into that measuring frame thing that Ryanair has.

On arrival at Shannon airport, loads of people had their luggage x-rayed for cigarettes so be careful.

    Thanks for the tips!!

That B&B in El Medano sounds lovely, but we have decided on self catering in Los Gigantes (can't afford to eat out every day for a whole fortnight!!).

Los Gigantes seems nice from what I've read, and will definitely rent a car and get a lot of day trips in.

Do that, I love to get out and see different places, as well as relaxing in the sun of course. I would also reccomend seeing Garrichico, it's not too far from Los Gigantos but a fairly hairy last couple of miles down into the town. About 15 or so 180 degree hairpin bends. If you're not a confident and experienced driver, be very careful. Garrichico has natural rock pools and a lovely volcano museum.

    Hi all,

I was in Tenerife last year, half-board in a Apart-Hotel. Found it tobe one of the best holidays I've ever had (was looking for some Winter Sun and got it).

With regard to baggage restrictions, I went with a Charter airline through Budget Travel and had no problem at all with baggage restrictions. I think the whole week cos me 650 plus spending money. (would go again this year only don't have the mone :()

Egypt and Morrocco are other good suggestions, but these days, you just don't know what might happen with Bin Laden and his cohorts...wasn't there 60 odd germans taken off a bus years ago and shot in Egypt? Would love to see the Pyramids though.

    Bye!
