College network in Trinity Hall

I think I read here before that you can get the steam client to work on the college network by using some socket/proxy program. I know you weren't able to connect to servers with it but you were able to get the onto your account which is what I want to do. Does anyone have any information on this?

I've also heard that people have managed to get torrents working through uTorrent; I thought torrenting didn't work on the network?

    Officially it doesn't.

Talk to netsoc about some of that stuff. Simply getting steam to connect to the internet shouldn't be impossible.

    There is no such thing.

    The correct Proxifier settings are:

    - proxyA.tcd.ie / HTTP Proxy / Port 8080 / Require Authentication (college un/pass)
    - proxyB.tcd.ie / HTTP Proxy / Port 8080 / Require Authentication (college un/pass)

Using proxifier you can get any program that ISS is not actively blocking to connect to the internet. Unfortunately, ISS ARE blocking the ports that Steam servers and Steam Friends (and torrents) require. Torrenting MAY work using proxifier, but ISS may disable it at the account level and you won't exactly be able to complain. A select few individuals seem to be unaffected by this, but hell if I know how or why, and you are not advised to try your luck in this regard.

Doesn't work on my Mac anyways. Try proxy fire though.

What exactly "doesn't work"? I assure you, these are the correct settings, and if they're "not working", then you're either doing something that ISS are actively blocking or you have a seperate problem.

Didn't they tell you? Nothing works on a Mac!
