I woke up the other morning...

...to a serious smell of burning. I hopped out of bed and opened the door to the kitchen, which was full of smoke. Immediately I thought that I might have tried to cook and apple in my drunken state the previous night, however all switches were off and there was no heat coming from the hobs, oven or grill.

Seeing no source of the smoke (no flames or smouldering evidence) I opened the window and returned to bed.

6 days later, the smell is still in the kitchen (with the window open 24/7), and we're still no closer to finding out where it came from. It was the only room in the apartment with smoke in it, and we've checked everything in it and still cant figure it out.

Was hoping you AHers could help me out with figuring what the hell happened!

You woke up, saw smoke in your kitchen, couldn't find the source, so you opened a window and went back to bed?:eek:

It was obviously the work of a higher power. The smell of sulphur, brimstone and burnt animal fat was a sign that your god is displeased with you. I suggest sacrificing bacon, eggs, black AND white pudding, friend potatoes and a tomato.

Do this in memory of me.

Yup I was tired and hungover. Didnt see any immediate danger (which I forgive myself for considering my state) so thought nothing more till I woke up later. The smoke was all gone then, but the smell of burning has lingering in the upholstery etc.

No idea what the fook happened

There might be some crazed maniac jumping in the 24/7 open window and making himself a fry each morning-hence the smoke.

    any friends gone missing?
    spontaneous human combustion?
    and what's with the apple?

I thought I might have tried to stupidly cook something the night before, and had gone to bed leaving the oven on, which would explain the smoke.

My mates room is in the kitchen (in a seperate room only accessible from the kitchen if that makes sense) and after going back to bed, the thought crossed my mind that his room was on fire and he was passed out and burning alive!!!!

But I text him asking was he ok, and he said yes so I was able to rule that possibility out

    Are you anywhere near Knock?
Maybe Mary popped in to make herself a bite to eat, I've heard she's not a great cook.

Sounds like could be faulty wire if was in your place and you need to get it checked out.Very dangerous.Otherwise the one beside you had a fire have you asked hence the lingering smell.

Otherwise your goose is cooked and you have a ghost

I came down one morning to find my kitchgen full of smoke and my George Forman glowing red..literally about to burst into flames.
The thing is,i'd switched it off the previous night and didnt unplug it but it somehow still overheated and could've burnt the gaff down if i hadnt been there.
Unplug everything electrical afore you go to bed kids.

He said cook 'and' apple. Maybe it's some kind of voodoo ritual or a strange exotic dance.
Seriously tho' op, make sure you have a working smoke alarm and the wiring is checked as someone just said. Hope you get to the bottom of it.
