    Hey all,

There's a swim DVD not available in Europe, from Amazon US. It's already pretty expensive at almost €40 inc. shipping. How much duty could I expect to have to pay An Post?

I actually can't find it at the same price from another US supplier either. The creator is charging $40 & $25 shipping. so I can't go elsewhere in US in hope the packing is less noticeable and that it might get through.

    Thanks for any clues.

No duty, just VAT at 21.5%. Plus handling charge.

Hopefully you will not be charged. Technically the limit is €22 (including shipping costs) and €45 if marked as a gift.

In reality they rarely use the €22 limit, even at christmas time I have seen customs spokesmen on TV saying the limit is €45 with no mention of gifts.

Also in reality they do not include shipping when determining if you are over the €45 limit -however once over that limit they do include shipping.

e.g. if the item is €44 and shipping is €11 (€55 total), you should get away with it, but if the item is €46 and shipping is €9 you are more likely to be stung, and then charged on the €55 combned value.

Thanks again for the info. Sounds like it's worth it so...
