actual gas price reduced - standard charge increased

    hi all,

I noticed on my board gais bill that, how it was announced in the news already, the gas price/m3 was reduced from 1. october.
For sure they increased the standard charge now how they always do, the same with ESB last year when elecrticity prices were falling.

This is absurd, they actually pay less for the gas but they raise the prices for the customer with their standing charge.

I'm wondering is this legal? Is there anything the consumers can do because I think this is not acceptable.

Is there any agency who is checking this, and where the consumer can get in contact with?

    Thanks for comments
    Tara

Commission for Energy Regulation - CER - www.cer.ie

    Good luck with that.

The gas price is the gas price based on a formula agreed with the CER based on how much it is expected to cost to buy and sell gas.

The standing charge is there to cover the cost of the network.

    The two are completely independent.

    @tom
had a look on the link you gave me. They regulate both, the gas price and the standing charge.
I phoned them, and I don't think they are really independent, so there's no point in getting anywhere with them. Presumed that beforehand.

So what I'm wondering the most, I seem to be the only person who cares and doesn't want to accept it in almost 5 million inhabitants in Ireland...
For sure this companies do what they want if nobody protests. I don't understand why people accept to be ripped off all the time...?????
Maybe somebody can give me an answer for that at last...?

Raise it with your TD. This regulator as is the case with any Regulator, is independent and should at very least satisfactorily deal with the complaint.
