Looking for new 40k units to paint

I decided to start collecting some Warhammer 40k stuff mainly for something to make and paint, rather than to play them. I recently bought myself an Imperial Valkyrie, which was a lot of fun to up together (and paint badly). So I'm looking for advice on what I should go for next.

As I said, I'm more interested in simply painting them than collecting an army so the practicality of the units isn't that important, but I'm not ruling out playing the game once I have enough units, so since I already have the Valkyrie, I'd probably give precedence to other units of the same army.

So are there any units you'd recommend as fun ones to paint? I'm not the greatest at this, so something relatively easy, but with scope for piddling about with once I get a modicum of skill.

Sticking to guard or willing to take anything on? :)

Something the same size of the Valkyrie would be the Bandblade (or varient) It's a superheavy tank that's really only used in Apocalypse games. It would be something simliar to the Valkyrie with large flat area's with small area's of detail (shrine at the rear of the tank for example) so would be fairly easy to paint. Another IG unit I like the look of is the sentinal. Small walker units with

Another large model that can be suited for creative expression is the Ork Stompa. It's large and it's Orky, which means it's large and it can look like pretty much anything. Again it's pretty much suited to apocalypse games only because of it's size

Depending on how much you want to spend on a model you could have a look through the forgeworld catalogue for something to paint. They have some nice models but can be pricy.

Thanks for that. The Baneblade looks like a pretty cool piece of kit. I might have to clear a little room in the house for it. :D

And thanks for the link. I'll give it a gander over lunch.
