Moving to Limerick from the US, and just packing my clothes.

When I get there, where do I go to buy a hair dryer, shampoo, bath towel, etc?

There are lots of electrical shops, large and small. I think size it / price it according to how long you intend to keep it.
    shampoo
Most corner shops will stock some, but pricewise go to Tesco or Dunnes Stores or your local pharmacy and you'll get a reasonable variety.
    bath towel
    Dunnes Stores or Penneys.

Lidil or Aldi will also stock shampoo, but may stock the others from time to time.

Most villages will have a weekly market where you can trade potatoes and the like for household goods, our thatched roof houses tend to get a bit chilly during the winter months so invest in a good coat and plenty of coal, and the leprechauns have a tendency to try and steal the luxury bathroom items, they're demons for the lavender Radox shower gel, cant get enough of it

:D seriously though, Dunnes, Boots and Tesco will have everything you'll need

Just go to Boots on William Street and you can get all of them under one roof.

Firstly you do know there are no showers in Ireland St. Patrick drove them out with the snakes! Given these challenging times im sure you could save money on the bath towel by using the hair dryer to dry yourself.. And make sure you look into the emersion system many a visitor to our emerald isle has fallen foul to this demon.

Come on Guys, buckeye asked a serious question, since when did the Limerick forum start to resemble After Hours? Sure there are a few threads started in here that deserve ridicule, but can we put a stop to it happening on every thread?

    It's not needed.

OP what area in Limerick are you moving to? There area a number of shopping centres in the city that would be useful to you if you're moving to a suburb.

Buckeye eh? I take it you are from Ohio then:D

Maybe if you told us a bit more about yourself we could be of more help.

Here is a few more details that will help you understand some of the suggestions so far.

Dunnes Stores and Tesco are very similar to Safeway in the U.S.

Lidl & Aldi are more like K-Mart or Wal-Mart but they are more food orientated and not as large. Discount prices for mostly German/European products/brands.

Debenhams and Brown Thomas are large clothes stores that are kind of like Macys but not as big. You will find mostly "label" clothes in these stores along with make-up/perfume counters at the entrances. You will also probably have a heart attack when you see the difference in prices between the U.S. and here.

For alcohol there are a number of liquor stores around the city - Fine Wines is one of them. You can also buy alcohol in Tesco and Dunnes.

Then there is Penneys which is basically cheap clothes like the kind you would find in Wal-Mart. Quality can be hit and miss. You can find clothes there that are smart and stylish or you can also find stuff that is trailer trash ghettofabulous - most of that stuff is neon:D

On Saturdays there is a Market downtown where you can find cheap veg and nice cheese etc.

    Hope this helps!

EDIT: Here are some websites for the above stores:

I just did this 15 months ago and have never regretted it. The people of Limerick are (for the most part :D) lovely and very welcoming!

Best get used to confusing people when you speak tho! I have found that 90% of the time people are shocked by the accent!

I find Dunnes to be my favourite for most everything!!
Best of luck with the move :)
