    Hey all,

Hoping to get started running for a long time and had done so for a month or so (mid Sept to mid Oct) 'til shin splints intervened.

Right leg in particular is very sore, but have hopped on a bike since to try keep up what little gains I've made.

Bluntly, I'm terribly unfit and running 5k would definitely be a challenge I'm ashamed to admit.

Anyway, question is, in my present state, is it too early to join a club? Would I just be wasting my/their time?

See a winter running league starting up locally (i'm new to area) soon and thought it might be worth a go, but not if I finish runs about half an hour behind everyone else!

Oh and well done to all who ran the marathon today, I hope to be in your position next year!

Everybody starts somewhere and everybody has a story about their first run (pretending to stretch to catch your breath).

Was in your shoes a few years ago til i started the winter league in Waterford. Caters for every level and not a bit elitist. Choice of starting with a 2.5 or 5 mile run. People who run it are very supportive and encouraging. Track session from beginners up every monday night at 7.30 with loads of spin off road running groups.
Go on....give it a shot!! Starts next thursday night (5th) Best thing I ever did!

Thanks very much, bit too far away though.

Thanks, this was the one that aroused my interest alright.

Would definitely have to start with 2.5 miles!
