Hello one and all. A few quick questions for those in the know - I'd appreciate any and all feedback.

I'm writing on behalf of my girlfriend. She is from Canada and is moving over here (Dublin) shortly. She has a 1st class hon fashion degree from the Uni of Manitoba and another 1st c/h degree in fashion marketing/merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. She's about 4 yrs experience in the Canadian industry, doing stuff such as product development, marketing, merchandising, production etc. She just finished interning for a vid production company at NYC fashion week.

    Questions:

    1. Can anyone recommend good places to search for jobs in the industry here? Websites, journals etc.

    2. Any recruitment agencies that would specialise in these fields?

    3. In general, any tips re the industry, how it operates etc?

    4. If all else fails, how is the temping market at the moment? Is it still easy enought to pick up this sort of work?

As I said, I appreciate any and all feedback. I can barely dress myself so anything at all would be terrific...;)

Futura Magazine is the only fashion trade mag afaik here

Or if she checks out Fashion City in Ballymount Dublin and asks around there she might get some more helpful knowledge

Unfortunately the Fashion industry is on its knees atm here so i wish her well

Cheers, pebbles. I appreciate your input. I'll tell her to take a look into both.

I know things are particularly rough and will be for some time. The worst of it is that she was offered a job in NYC but chose to come here because I couldn't go there! I feel terrible about it (but also, perhaps sadistically, very happy that we'll be living together soon) so I'm trying to find out as much as I can before she arrives.

She may just have to step out of the industry for a time. I guess there's plenty of architects, engineers etc in the same position at the min.

OP, I think your girlfriend should try just making a list of companies in the fashion industry and approaching them directly. They don't seem to be using agencies much at the moment. I had an interview for a marketing job with a fashion retailer just a few days ago, and that's how I found it. Good luck!

Cheers, Ouchette. Thanks for your help.

I set up this website - http://www.fashionjobs.ie/ - a few years ago but didn't really get round to finishing it. I don't know if it'll be any use to you, but it might. Basically it's a collection of (most of) the fashion related jobs from the various Irish jobsites.

Cheers. I actually came across it in a general google search. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much up at the minute. Plus the sight seems to list a ton of non-fashion jobs - such as manager positions in supermarkets.

Cheers though, I'll keep an eye on it.
