    Network setup with OpenSuse

      NOOB to linux, needs advice on network setup as after install from DVD it has not found/auto setup the networka nd cant get online to the netopia router here. Xp runs on other pcs here in the house and the network lead was previously inuse with one of those Pcs. Any help appreciated, thanks

      Is the Netopia currently set to supply details by DHCP?

      What's the current state of your network interfaces as shown by ifconfig and route?

      Netopia's DNS server does not cooperate well with Linux.

      You will need to manually specify the name server to be able to get online.

      You can either using your ISP's (See 192.168.1.254 - Your routers IP.) Or OpenDNS's Servers.

      You should specify your chosen option in Network Manager.

      Strange so that I have been able to run multiple PCs with different distros over about 5 years while using a Netopia router ..... without seeing any problem.

      I guess you are just lucky.
      I have had to work around it in almost every case. The exception to the rule being Debian which somehow simply worked.

      There is also a thread on boards here outlining the problem on Ubuntu 9.10 .

      Sounds like IPv6 needs to be disabled ..... had to do that with just about every distro I tried in the last few years.
      It is just a limitation of the router ..... an age (and/or price) thing I guess.
