My wife has been thinking of getting into running for quite some time. She is looking to start but has played any sport in a year or two. I have said I will run with her. Im quite fit as I kickbox three times a week and go to the gym twice but this is important for her.

I am looking for tips and helps from those of you out there on how I should go about things from the experience people have had.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,

I've just spotted this buried on page 3. Things got busy in here for a couple of day (now I wonder why:confused:) it must have slipped over the edge of page 1 quickly.
a lot of people started out with the couch to 5k programme
    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

i'm not long running myself so I'll let the real runners give more advice. i would however recommend keeping reading the training logs on here. When you're still having walking breaks and running 5 k seems impossible it's great to track someone elses progress from the same point and see how far they've come. It makes it seem more achieveable.
    Good luck to you both.

The couch to 5k prog is a good start. Basically, start off with short distances, take walk breaks if needed, just get out there. Tracking progress with a log is a good idea to see improvements. Have a few different routes so you don't get bored. And maybe mix it up with some cross-training (swimming, cycling) to prevent injury. Enjoy!

    Hey guys,

Thanks for posting the couch to potato programme. On run 6 tomorow of 27 and Mrs Seillejet and I are thoroughly enjoying. She is enjoying it as she is starting from scratch and Im getting a kick out of it as it allows us to do something excercise wise together and its a comfortable warm up for me before my kickboxing class.

Completed run six of 27 at nine this morning in the driving rain. Tough getting out of bed on a Sunday and tougher doing it but well worth it for the feeling afterwards. Have to step it up again next week but looking forward to it to be honest.
