Blank Screen after 10.6 install

    Hi all,

I've just installed Snow Leopard on my 2006 Macbook Pro, and in the process, the screen has gone blank (black). As part of the process, it restarts a couple of times, but each time, after about 10 seconds, it goes blank again. No amount of key pressing revives it.

I've restarted it manually and the same thing happens, and now I'm a very worried man! Can anyone shed any light on this, and any fixes, please?

    Thank you

    Damo

As above, I think in most cases the installation is still going ahead, the screen is just off, and you should let it continue. Some people have used a flashlight to see the prompts.

This suggests that changing the brightness during installation causes it to happen. However, it's also possible the installer doesn't like the graphics card in some MBPs.

But you may need to reset the PRAM and start the installation from scratch. I hope you have a backup in case anything went wrong.

Cheers, Professor. That is exactly what appears to have happened. I had a closer look, and could see a very faint image of some windows, and then ramped up the brightness and all's back to normal.

I reckoned it was some quirk or other, but nonetheless, I still got that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach which suggests something is badly screwed up :(
