Eventually got an old frame that Im gonna make into my fixie for commuting to work. Its in pretty good condition bar a few scrapes, got some cool original stickers on it as well. It has a San Marco rolls saddle on it, supposedly these are quite good can they be reconditioned?

the padding goes on those rolls saddles - gets softer, they are fairly standard saddles really.
i guess you could get some leather (i think they are leather - got one in the bits bucket in the shed) cream, brooks prob do one might get away with furniture stuff

Just after stripping the bike down everything seems to be in good nick bar a bit of rust here and there. The cranks and bottom bracket are in good condition which is good so I dont have to replace them. Took the old bar tape off as well found that the bars are sakae custom road champions. Anyone know anything about these? Did a quick google on them not much showed up. They are seriously light though. Get a pick of them in a bit.

not much padding on a rolls but I have one on my fixie and it's very comfy - refurb would be like any leather I suppose - not sure what that is though

they can still be bought new

Bizarrely Graham Obree had one on his old faithful for the one hour records

Ah, one of these was my race bike in the 80's ! used to ride to school on one. Wrecked when an old lady opened a car door in front of me. Loved that bike. Nostalgia.

I still have a couple of those Rolls San Marcos saddles - one yellow and one red. They'd cut the perineum of you. They are useless with out sgnificant padding in your shorts.

I think this is a personal thing. I use Brooks myself but would have more faith in the San Marco Rolls working for more people, simply as so many racers actually still use them.
